The sixth chakra, also known as the third eye, is indigo in color and deals with our intuition. It is located just between the eyebrows and slightly above, and is known by the sanskrit name Ajna. Ajna means both “to command” and “to perceive.” When the sixth chakra is balanced, we combine an open and intuitive right brain with logical and focused left brain, allowing us to see in a way that is balanced.
The Ajna chakra is the source of intuition or inner knowing. It is that little voice that lets us know we are on the right–or wrong–path. If our sixth chakra is closed or out of balance, we may feel disconnected from our intuition or unsure about whether we can trust it.
If we are too attached to the rational brain, we may doubt that our intuition has anything to teach us, which can cause a disconnection from our third eye chakra. It also governs memories and dreams, so if there is a blockage it could cause nightmares or hallucinations.
This energy center rules the eyes, nose, brain, neurological center, and pineal gland, so if it is imbalanced some of the physical ailments include eye problems such as glaucoma, blindness, sinus issues, headaches, stroke, and brain injuries or issues.
Some ways to balance our third eye chakra include meditation and visualization. To practice visualization, when you are working on something that challenges you, visualize it turning out the way you would like it to. An affirmation to use is, “I see all things with clarity.”
Vision boards are a great activity to work on developing our third-eye chakra. Create a vision board with photos and words that are symbols of what you would like to manifest in your life. Keep it in view and look at it every day while thinking of what you desire.
