Fifth Chakra – Find Your Voice

The fifth chakra or Vishuddha Chakra is also known as the throat chakra, for its location. It’s color is turquoise blue, and it is connected with free expression. It is the first of the three spiritual chakras. As the throat is a narrower part of the body, it also acts as a bottleneck to the higher, more spiritual sixth and seventh chakras.

When the throat chakra is blocked or out of alignment, we may have trouble speaking up for ourselves and admitting how we really feel. When our we are not living and speaking our truth, we are giving our power away. Alternately, we may talk too much or engage in gossip or hateful speech. As we know, when our chakras are blocked or out of alignment, we are not operating at our best.

Physical symptoms of a blocked throat chakra can include tonsilitis, strep throat, laryngitis, and mouth and teeth issues. This chakra is connected with the thyroid, and can manifest in hyper (overactive) or hypo (underactive) thyroid. Physical symptoms can also include shoulder, neck and jaw issues.

Finding our voice and speaking our truth is so important to step into our true power. If we are not speaking truthfully, we are hiding and allowing others to have power over us. We sometimes allow our feelings to take a backseat to the feelings of others. This can become a habit for people who like to keep the peace and are uncomfortable with confrontation.

If you feel like your throat chakra might be blocked or out of alignment, here are some ways to work on it. Singing is one way to help open the throat chakra. This stimulates the vocal cords and helps to remove blocks. Staying hydrated and drinking lots of water throughout the day will help to allow healthy energy to flow through the throat chakra. In addition, eating fruits such as lemons, limes, peaches, and apples helps to keep the throat healthy.

Also, journaling or simply writing your feelings down is a good way to get them out if you don’t feel comfortable speaking them out loud yet. Over time and with practice, it gets easier to say what’s on your mind and speak your truth when it matters.

Speaking as honestly and openly about your feelings as you can manage will also help improve relationships. If we aren’t truthful about how we are feeling, our relationships won’t be as deep or satisfying as they could be, because we aren’t showing the other person are true self.

When our throat chakra is open and aligned, we can express ourselves freely and enjoy self expression and positive communication in our relationships.
