Third Chakra

The color of the third chakra is yellow. It is called the manipura chakra, which means lustrous gem in Sanskrit, and is located at the solar plexus, between the navel and the bottom of the ribcage. The element is fire, and the sound is ram.

The third chakra is concerned with our personal power, energy, and self-esteem. It is also tied to our intellect and mental abilities. When our third chakra is healthy and balanced, we are confident and take charge of our lives, living with self-discipline and independence.

An unbalanced third chakra can exhibit the following physical issues: digestive problems, improper processing of nutrients, constipation, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, eating disorders, ulcers, and pancreas, liver, and colon issues.

Mental issues related to a closed or unbalanced manipura chakra include feeling powerless and lacking in self confidence and direction. Conversely, it can also manifest as aggression or a need to control people and situations.

Ways to balance the third chakra include practicing yoga regularly. Be sure to include asanas focusing on the core strength such as boat or navasana, and always start with sun salutations.

Wearing the color yellow will bring energy to the solar plexus chakra as will going outside and spending time in the sun.
